We are proud to announce Beat Stew Vol. 4! The fifth installment of the Beat Stew series takes the listener on a trip through a range of styles from hip-hop to ambient, all woven together by label head, Sahy Uhns. Featuring 10 new tracks from the Proximal crew, they are joined by some familiar names from the past along with new contributions from the likes of recent Red Bull Music Academy grad Claude Speeed (American Men, LuckyMe), Italy’s AD Bourke (Citinite, Scenario, Basic Rhythm), and Beat Scene veteran Co.fee (My Hollow Drum, Label Who, HW&W Recordings). Beat Stew Vol. 4 is also the introduction to a few new MCs joining the Proximal camp: San Diego transplant NOTE (The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen) along with LA rappers Muttjob, Rekon and The Lost Occupant, who collectively make up NSI.
BENEDEK’s debut EP That’s My Jam! is available NOW, both as an online digital EP and on 7″ vinyl. The lead single is a party anthem and features the smooth vocal stylings of friend and collaborator DāM-FunK. That’s My Jam! will get your feet on the dance floor and your hands in the air, if not for the undeniable groove than because DāM-FunK said so. BENEDEK’s first official solo release is prepped and ready to blow up – get ready for a new voice in modern boogie-funk…
For the digital version of That’s My Jam!, BENEDEK recruited labelmates BearClaw, Lawrence Grey, Sahy Uhns and Wake and fellow 8-bit fanboy Knife City to craft remixes that greatly expand the sonic reach of the single. BearClaw’s contribution is the perfect soundtrack to your summer backyard barbecue. Lawrence Grey’s mix is a nod to the dance floor with its driving disco house beat. Wake flips the beat with a hip-hop version and Sahy Uhns takes it to the dirty south with his chopped and screwed remix before blasting back off into space. If the original That’s My Jam! brings to mind a sunny SoCal day, Benedek’s “Midnight Cruiser Mix” takes you on a starry night drive down the PCH in a black Ferrari.
The first Proximal mixtape of 2010 has officially dropped. Beat Stew Vol. 2 is featuring all of the Proximal Records line up and many of our nearest and dearest friends. This one was a lot of fun and is perfect for summer BBQs and beach days.
